Mr. Fritz Doran enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1981. As an infantryman, he deployed to Beirut, Lebanon in 1982 in support of multi-national peacekeeping operations. Sgt Doran was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) in 1986 and attended Jacksonville University in Florida, earning a B.S. in Computer Science and a Marine Corps Commission in April 1988.
After initial training, as a Data Systems Officer, 2ndLt Doran reported to 2nd Force Service Support Group in 1989 and deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm in December 1990. In 1992, 1stLt Doran attended Command and Control Systems School (CCSC) in Quantico, and in May 1993 was given orders to Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA). As the Network Projects Officer, he was assigned the task of supporting the Marine Corps’ transition from Banyan VINES networks to TCP/IP based networks. He led a project called “G6 QuickFix” to train Marines worldwide on the topics of routing and switching, network design, and network operations using TCP/IP. During this time, Capt Doran was instrumental in establishing the FMF Support Division, now known as the Warfighter Support Division. In 1996 he was reassigned to I MEF G6 as the Tactical Data Systems Officer.
In 1997, Capt Doran was selected to attend Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He graduated in 1999 with an M.S. in Computer Science and was again ordered to MCTSSA. During this tour, Maj Doran served as Engineering Branch Head in Ground Systems Division, Current Operations Officer, and the Command Information Officer prior to his retirement in July 2003.
Following his military retirement, Mr. Doran continued to work for the Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy as a Department of Defense contractor on a variety of projects, including Joint Mobile Network Operations and the Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command’s Cyber Terrain Mapping project. On the Navy side, Mr. Doran supported SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific on several research and development efforts in the areas of mine warfare/mine countermeasures and anti-submarine warfare. He also supported the Program Executive Officer, Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence as the engineering liaison for Tactical Mobile (TACMOBILE), the ground control station for the Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance Force (MPRF).
Mr. Doran joined MCTSSA once again, this time as a government employee, in June 2015. He has worked in Test and Certification Division, Program Engineering Support Division, and the Technical Director’s staff as the Senior Principal Engineer for Networks. Mr. Doran took over as the Technical Director in December 2022.
